New Tesla Model 3 Goes the Extra Miles, Exceeding Official Range Estimates

The Tesla Model 3 Highland version has recently gained a lot of attention after it was found that it has an exceptional driving range, even surpassing official claims. This signifies that the new iteration of Model 3 offers major improvement in efficiency and performance making it a very popular choice in today’s highly competitive EV market.

Tesla vehicles are known for their cutting-edge technologies and innovations in exceptional vehicle range, but this Model 3 Highland is truly special with its unexpectedly high range performance which has surprised drivers and reviewers.

Tesla Model 3 Highland Drove 372 Miles

A test done by Bjorn Nyland and Out of Spec Reviews has shown that the Tesla Model 3 Highland covers more distance than its official EPA estimate at highway speeds. The Model 3 Highland was being driven at 70mph on the highway and it was found that it covered 372 miles of distance.

This is more than what Tesla has officially claimed. According to Tesla, the Model 3 Highland can only offer a range of around 342 miles but this test showed extra 30 miles of range.

And now here is a twist, this Model 3 Highland was derived when it died. Yeah, you heard it right, there was still extra juice left in that Model 3 Highland vehicle. Tesla vehicle has a feature in which if the battery bar shows zero, there is still some extra range of around 20 miles you can get from the vehicle. This is a very good feature that many other EV manufacturers miss out on.

Generally, the EVs are not very efficient while driving on highways compared to city driving. The real-world data is always lower than the official claims, especially on highways but here it’s exactly the opposite which is very shocking.

The reviewer also tested the previous generation Model 3 vehicle, and for comparison, it only offered 298 miles of range with the same speed on the same highway, an improvement of over 70 miles. This shows how much improved the new Model 3 Highland is compared to its older iteration.

Reasons Behind Such Good Range

One of the key factors that can be responsible for Model 3 Highland’s unexpected range is the improved aerodynamics. The vehicle features a redesigned front end which has reduced the drag coefficient (Cd) of the vehicle to 0.219 from the Cd of 0.225 of its previous generation. This improvement in aerodynamics can alone be responsible for a 5-8% increase in range which is quite significant.

Another important factor contributing to this extended range can be the new big battery pack system inside Model 3 Highland. Tesla has been focusing a lot on battery chemistry innovations, improving the energy density and overall efficiency of the battery management system which is fully reflected in this test.

Conclusion

Overall Tesla Model 3 Highland tests have shown a very impressive range which not only meets but even exceeds the official range specifications, thanks to the advancements and improvements made in battery technologies and aerodynamics.
Model 3 Highland being quite competitively priced can be a very good option for EV buyers. It has proved itself as one of the most efficient electric vehicles in Tesla’s line-up.
