Tesla Brings Back Free FSD Transfer for S3XY and Cybertruck Vehicles in North America

Tesla has resumed the Full Self-Driving (supervised) transfer program in North America and offers owners the possibility to transfer the FSD package to another car free of charge. This update applies to all freshly produced Model S, 3, X, Y, and Cybertruck vehicles but notably excludes the Foundation or Launch Series models.

New FSD Transfer Window Opens

According to the program details, the Tesla must be ordered and delivered from April 24th, 2025, until the completion of the promotion period. It is not clear yet when this program ends, but given that this could be in Elon’s style of setting up lofty goals to be achieved around mid-to-late in the year 2025, there might be an underlying mechanism to aim for specific quarterly targets.

This is quite a change from previous offers, where the targets were usually associated with the end of the year. It also deepens competition within the market of EVs as Tesla works on the next generation of the FSD system.

Eligibility Requirements

But there are stipulations that have been laid down fully by the company that prospective participants must meet before being admitted to the program .

  • For this offer, the customer must purchase a new Tesla vehicle that is not a Foundation or a Launch Series vehicle.
  • They have to be the legal owner and registrant of the current car with FSD (supervised) purchased outright—the FSD application must remain installed on the current car until Tesla removes it, which usually happens within 2 days after the delivery of the new vehicle.
  • The existing and the new vehicles should be registered using the same Tesla account.
  • Before the buyers receive the products, any other conditions and terms that have to be complied with must be signed by the buyers.

These conditions help avoid the program’s availability for leased vehicles, taxis, limo services, rental cars, any business entity, or any car that was sold with FSD but has since changed ownership.

Notable Exclusions

Tesla is also indicating in a very clear manner which of its models do not qualify:

  • Foundation Series Cybertrucks and Model Y Launch Series
  • Cars that are in the rental or leased, or with commercial fleet or company fleet usage.
  • Cars associated with buy-back, cancellation, and those having delinquent balances or liens

It cannot be done afterward, and all the conditions around it should be met before receiving a new vehicle.

Why is Tesla offering this again?

Elon Musk had said that the FSD transfer program would be a one-time offer, but that is not true: now, Tesla has offered the program several times, and with this last one, the transfer appears to be the most promising.

This is in line with customers’ preferences as well as Tesla’s changing organizational strategy. This group of Tesla owners who invested in FSD at an earlier stage also considers itself part of a privileged group, which should be entitled to preserve this incredible value in their automobiles. The high cost of FSD, ranging from $12,000 to $15,000, indicates that customers demand flexibility in using it in the future.

By doing it again, Tesla continues to pay attention to the satisfaction of its owners and by encouraging next car purchases, which is crucially important for the automaker, given the changing tides in the overall EV industry.
