Tesla Scanning Warner Bros Studio, Gathering Fleet Data Ahead of Robotaxi Launch

Tesla is gearing up for its big Robotaxi/CyberCab reveal, and the excitement is building. Starting on August 28th, Tesla’s fleet began collecting data around Warner Bros. Studio, likely in preparation for the big event.

It’s unclear if the data will be used to improve autonomous driving or just enhance the 3D maps. One thing is certain with their robust prep: Tesla has something major planned. A live demo perhaps?

Tesla To Give Live Robotaxi Demo

Tesla has started gathering a lot of data around Warner Bros. Studio over the last few days. This comes right after news broke that Tesla plans to hold their upcoming Robotaxi event at Warner’s studio.

Warner Bros. Studio is a big deal for the launch, it is like a mini city with over 110 acres of roads and buildings. Does it seem Tesla is getting ready for something exciting for the launch, maybe an FSD vehicle in Batmobile style launch? The 10/10 launch preparations are in full swing as they began mapping the area.

Companies like Waymo and General Motors’s Cruise also use mapping an area to collect and document data before offering rides. The last 08/08 launch was abruptly canceled. But it sure looks like this time they are using this unique area to fine-tune their self-driving tech before the big reveal.

Similar data gathering is reported in other spots like the Tesla Diner and various Bay Area locations, all adding up for a possible live demo on October 10th.

What Is Data Gathering?

Tesla is gathering all possible data across the Warner Bros. Studio areas ahead of its autonomous vehicles launch. Tesla might be using the detailed mapping areas to build a comprehensive database as their cars drive through public roads.

This data gathering is likely to help maps, capturing things like stop signs, intersections, and even bumps in the road. Tesla can then adjust suspension settings for a smoother ride in its vehicles, such as the Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck.

Some people don’t really like the idea of using pre-mapped data and question the autonomous capabilities. But if you see it in a way it’s almost like driving a route you know well than driving in an unknown way. It makes the drive safer and more confident.

For Tesla’s self-driving cars, having more information about the area means they can perform better. One Reddit user too hopes for a stepup event mentioning how Cybertruck was a terrible watch.

Since the WB Studio area isn’t a usual spot for Tesla vehicles, this data collection seems an obvious choice. Tesla said that usually area mapping is not required but having them mapped can help improved decision-making and pre-processing of the route. By mapping the area in advance, Tesla is likely trying to ensure a fail-safe experience for everyone attending the event.

Bottomline

Tesla is prepping for the big Robotaxi reveal by gathering data not just around Warner Bros. Studio, but also across San Francisco, the Bay Area, and places like the Tesla Diner in Hollywood. Tesla plans to launch its Robotaxi service in California first, likely starting with specific, geofenced areas as they fine-tune the tech.

The automaker is working closely with government agencies to ensure everything is approved for a future launch, which may take some time. As for the event, WB Studios is a brilliant choice to give people the real taste of driverless rides in real launch vehicles in a controlled mapped area.
