Tesla Update 2024.44.3+ Adds 4-Wheel Path Visualization at Low Speeds

Tesla has recently rolled out its latest software update, 2024.44.3+, which offers a remarkable upgrade to its in-car visualization system. Among them is the new 4-wheel trajectory display with improved scales, which helps to provide a more accurate vision of vehicle motion at low speeds.

This feature is expected to enhance drivers’ ability to control situations such as parking, tight turns, and close areas. The 4-wheel visualization feature was already running on a Cybertruck with the 2024.26.11 update in August.

What is 4-Wheel Path Visualization?

The four-wheel path visualization is an advanced rendering of a Tesla’s movement trajectory, including the positions of all four wheels. Tesla’s current path visualization is aimed at demonstrating the car’s movement along a central axis, and now, with this update, it visualizes each wheel’s travel path in real time. This capability is especially effective during low-speed movements and lets the drivers better understand the road conditions.

For instance, when going through a one-side road or parking in a tight spot, the visual display helps the drivers know how the car will fit into the spot in detail. By accurately showing the contour of the four wheels and their paths, the system prevents situations when one car’s wheels get too close to the other or at least helps in daunting maneuvers with more confidence.

Besides enhancing the trajectory visualization, Tesla has made changes to the Autopark feature. This release improves operational and visualization functionalities, so Autopark runs better. The improvements include:

  1. Quick and efficient location of the most appropriate parking area.
  2. Subsequently, faster interchangeability between forward and reverse motion.
  3. Improved ability to park within constrained areas.

These improvements are intended for further improving the Autopark functionality which is based on the vision-based systems in contrast to the ultrasonic sensors, which provide higher performance in various settings Footnote.

Real-World Application of 4-Wheel Visualisation

The new 4-wheel path visualization shines in several real-world scenarios:

Parking in Tight Spaces

Parallel and perpendicular parking is enhanced here by an over-head precise depiction of the car’s reasonable movement on the parking slot indicating the odds of touching curbs or other obstacles.

Navigating Narrow Roads

When along narrow twisted roads or in city conditions when space for a car to maneuver is restricted, a driver can use the visualization to make sure that all four wheels do not overstep the permissible limits.

Trailer and Towing Assistance

For models with towing capacities incorporated within the car, the improved path makes it easier for Tesla owners to position the car correctly for hitching on trailers.

Availability

The features rolled out in update 2024.44.3 are is now available to every Tesla user regardless of them being an FSD subscriber or not. This is a departure from Tesla’s past practices of providing software updates because it expands the accessibility of features that were initially locked only to FSD-paying customers.

The update also includes important security fixes and some performance improvements for overall better driving experience.

Tesla’s 2024.44.3 update of 4-wheel path visualization brings a major change to enhance user experience through improved visualization and functionality, making driving and parking more intuitive and safer for all Tesla owners.
